It's so much better for you to follow me on Twitter. I'm @amirulruslan, guys.
Leaving for Rainforest World Music Festival in less than four days.
My first chosen twelve from yesterday Friday the 18th of July 2008. (Mind you, some were taken on Saturday super-early-morning, but you know, who cares about all that?)
...because each bloody time I'm here it's bloody raining every bloody day, oh God.
On Friday the 18th of July, 2008 at approximately 8.15am - pray there are no delays - Amirul B Ruslan will embark on his second solo trip to the Eastern Provinces, revisiting the city of Kuching once more since his famous February trip.
There is one key error in that last paragraph: "second solo trip". Amirul B Ruslan will not be going to the Eastern Provinces alone, but in a "solo trip +1" thing. The plus one abovementioned shall be none other than young Jim Kem (real name: Jazym Kem), noted and accomplished photographer and a long-time friend.
As per the long-respected tradition of young people traveling on foot (not across the South China Sea, though, how stupid do you think I am?), we shall have only one stock-full backpack each, with no more than a camera, some clothes, two or three hats, half a Hygiene Set, and probably a laptop computer each. We're mobile workstations.
Though the trip is t-minus six days and counting, there's a lot of things I have neglected to do. One is find my itinerary paper thing that lets me go into the flight. Two is get my big-ass backpack, which is in the possession of young Mr. Kem. Third is to pack, and fourth is to be there for the flight.
Kuching, I hereby return.
Tomorrow is Commercialized Lovers' Day,
The day after is my own 18th birthday,
And the one after that is my solo trip to Kuching.

Looks like it's going to be quite a busy next few days.
Who shall be my Valentine?
I've actually got a Myspace valentine, but I need to consolidate power by marketing myself to a larger audience. That would be Vox. Go on, Vox, you can make a difference!
I've been reading quite a lot since the holidays commenced. I've been reading nonstop, despite the computer claiming more of my time, but he's an exhaustible list for your perusal.
Zeroestly (honestly, what the heck is the word for "before firstly"?): Movies to watch. The list from just yesterday's blog post says Juno and The Dreamers, right? Add Memento to that list. I've been wanting that for a long, long time, so I might even catch Memento before I actually do with The Dreamers.
Firstly: The huge stack of Star Wars novels I still seem to have in Roslyn's room. Of the thirty or so books there, about twelve of them are New Jedi Order, (which I personally believe is the best series yet, beating even Legacy of the Force; though maybe I'm just pissed because Mara's dead now) I've been reading the ones I do have for about three books in (Dark Tide I, Dark Tide II, and Agent of Chaos I), now. Combine that with the two previous I was reading - Mike Stackpole's Rogue Squadron series: I have Isard's Revenge, as well as my once-favorite I, Jedi. I still like I, Jedi, but I find it lacking somehow, you know? I'm also rereading for the fourth time Matthew Stover's pure genius Revenge of the Sith novelization, which solidifies my opinion that anything Matt Stover writes is awesomeness to the 100th percentile. Screw you, Vergere-haters, Traitor-bashers. Altogether, that makes for about six novels read in three or so days.
Secondly: Potential Forensics pieces. As perhaps you may now know, the SEA Forensics tournament, something truly very dear to my heart, is coming real soon. I need to register as a judge again for this year, but I'm reducing my possible events judgeworthy to about three. Don't want to go overboard with seven actual slots like I did last year. It ruined my chances for Finals-judging, really. Roslyn has staked a claim to Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace, nobody has a claim to The Whalestoe Letters, and I'm still looking for duet/solo/whatever/whatever pieces. This will be Roslyn's last year, and SHE WILL BE SUCCESS!, mainly because she has to - it's her last year. That said, I'm applauding her regardless of the fair certainty that she will choose a crappy piece: she's still the only Sri Inai student ever to make all five Forensics years. She even has the badges to prove it.
Thirdly: My solo adventure to Kuching. As I have not been able to requisition a long-distance jetpack to go to the United States to catch Darling Violetta on the day after my birthday, Kuching solo would be most fun. I still have to book a hotel and stuff - you know, one of them guesthouses or backpackers' hostel - but that should add to the fun. I may not want to turn 18, but the world forces me to, so there's no reason why I shouldn't turn the one-eight without some inner meditation and conflict-solving, as well as getting inevitably lost in the Eastern Provinces. Can't be too bad, right? I mean, hey! I've still got a phone.
Parents are interested in shifting me off to the Eastern Provinces, particularly capital city Kuching, for my birthday. It's my college holidays then, and Tabby hails from there - particularly interested in getting me to understand whatever beauty that city has - but it might be Forensics round then!
Can't I have both things? Forensics, my true love, and travails to the Eastern Provinces, which is not yet apparent as 'love'. All I want, as the phrase goes, is everything.
Either ways, SEA Forensics 2008 is something I just absolutelylyly cannot miss. But I would love to go to Kuching too. They have a Kenny Rogers now, I hear, which means they have +20% culture.
