I've been listening to David Bowie's Space Oddity over and over this last week, possibly because I hadn't updated the Isabella (yes, I'm going to refer it like a ship) with my ginormous MP3 collection from the desktop (which isn't officially named, but I think is the Camille)
Some lyrics from it just resonate greatly within me.
This is major Tom to ground control, I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here, am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can doThough I'm past one hundred thousand miles, I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much,
(she knows)
Oh, and if late 1960s' music videos is what you like, then here's one of Space Oddity courtesy to the Tube of You.
I will never know, 'cause you will never show.
Come on and love me now, come on and love me now.
It's the #1 song for two months on my iPod, iTunes and Last.fm! The Cardigans' song Carnival, off 1994's Life. The video has some sort of pseudo-"period piece" effect on it. Is it 50s? Is it 60s? Nina Persson doesn't at all look like Nina Persson (modern Nina I mean). Not that I care. Nina Persson has that special place in my heart (OK, it's more of a small box) that I use to keep my favorite female lead vocalists. I haven't checked in a long time, but I know Poe and Cami Elen are there. I think they're having tea.
Well, go look at the video and mull the effects of strange early 90s songs on your head. And Nina Persson!
The Hush Sound (Last.fm tells me that at 161 plays this week alone, they are #2 most played artist this week, and #2 most played album ever) covers The Cardigans' Lovefool (which until February this year I personally couldn't really stand). Everybody knows this song; it's been on so many soundtracks. I don't know why it's the most (over)played Cardigans song, because everybody should listen to Erase/Rewind more. Or anything from Long Gone Before Daylight. Or anything from Life. Or anything from Super Extra Gravity. You get my gist.
Has anybody seen the Hey Pretty video for the MZD/Poe version? There's a strange strangeness to it somehow.
Worth the load time if you want to ogle at a scantily-dressed Poe - if you want.
